I came across this site while looking for some problems and found a whole lot of statistics of unhappy women towards the industry. To summarise the site, they feel that the industry are not targeting women as much as they are men. The industry should re-think their marketing decisions because by making men the priority will cause their audience to be halved. In effect of this, women will not feel that comics are for them if they are not being targeted and will not want to continue to support the industry if they carry on like this, which adds up to a lot of buyers that they are missing out on. A big audience is essential to the industry because they have established a big market for themselves and now need the consumers to keep it running. The industry should target both men and women equally and then they will be able to widen their audience and have a lot more buyers than they already do.
Digital Comics.
Nowadays everything is found online and younger generations are choosing to buy more things online rather than going into stores because of how easy it is to get it delivered straight to your door. Unfortunately buying digital comics is not that simple due to formatting and value for money. The issue that I have with formatting is that we have so many different devices that can hold comics and be portable, but they cannot share the same file format. This is bad for the industry because their customers do not want a file that they can only view on one device, they will not feel like they own the comic file and stop buying comics because of it. This will cause their audience to drop out of their market because of the inconvenience that occurs once they have made the purchase. Customers would be okay with the files not sharing the formats if they weren't so expensive. The price you pay for just one file is the same as going to get a hard copy from the store, but some comics are harder to find and can cause the audience to get frustrated and stop buying the comics. Digital comics can be at a cheaper price because they are cutting out the printing and shipping costs, the industry are too money hungry, which is not an attractive look to carry. A comic fan who is upset by this said ""digital" comics for $3? Please. It's a complete failure to understand the scale of digital economy of selling five thousand comics with a profit margin of $2 per unit verses selling fifty thousand with a profit margin of .25¢ per unit. The latter is a both far more profitable in both a short-term and long-term prospective."
